UMC Maintenance Advisory: Issues on EC

Subject: Suspension of Operations for Lenovo Legion 5 15AKP10 Due to EC Firmware Anomaly
Date: 20 November 2025
Issued by: United Metrolite Central (UMC) — Systems Reliability Division

1. Overview

This advisory serves as a formal notification of the suspension of all operational use of the Lenovo Legion 5 15AKP10 within UMC. The suspension follows the discovery of a critical Embedded Controller (EC) firmware anomaly that affects battery telemetry accuracy.

UMC confirms that the anomaly impacts telemetry only.
Battery hardware, safety functions, and electrical systems remain fully intact.

2. Incident Summary

Between 17–20 November 2025, UMC’s automated monitoring systems detected abnormal behavior in the EC logic of the Legion 5 15AKP10. The following issues were recorded:

  • Full Charge Capacity (FCC) remaining frozen across several cycles

  • Calibration routines failing to update battery capacity

  • EC firmware not responding to BIOS updates

  • Telemetry partially functional (voltage, temperature, percentage OK; FCC frozen)

These anomalies were escalated to the Systems Reliability Division for investigation.

3. Findings

UMC confirms that:

  1. The issue originates from the EC firmware logic, not the battery pack.

  2. The affected EC version exhibits locked telemetry tables, preventing FCC recalculation.

  3. BIOS updates do not overwrite the EC firmware, leaving the defective version active.

  4. The issue is reproducible on multiple test units.

  5. Remediation requires Lenovo-certified intervention, specifically:

    • an EC firmware reflash, or

    • a deep-level EC reset involving battery disconnect.

Software-level fixes are not possible due to the EC’s low-level control architecture.

4. Operational Impact

UMC has determined that continuing operation of the Legion 5 15AKP10 poses the following risks:

  • Misleading or inaccurate battery diagnostics

  • Incorrect long-term battery health reporting

  • Invalid data affecting UMC maintenance planning

  • Possible disruption of telemetry analysis systems

As a result, UMC has ordered the immediate suspension of all Legion 5 15AKP10 activities.

5. Required Actions

5.1 Suspension Order

The Lenovo Legion 5 15AKP10 must be placed in maintenance hold effective immediately.

5.2 Documentation Submission

Departments must preserve and submit:

  • Telemetry logs

  • battery-report.html

  • Firmware version records

  • Daily maintenance preset data

These will support UMC’s continuing analysis.

6. Continuing Maintenance Operations

UMC will continue daily maintenance presets and monitoring across all systems.
Further updates regarding the Legion 5 15AKP10 will be provided as more information becomes available.

7. Closing Statement

UMC apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this firmware anomaly.
